Cheryl Hamlin
Cheryl Hamelin has been a fundraising and communications leader for more than three decades. Over that time, she has served many important organizations and institutions locally and nationally. In June 2022, Cheryl joined the University of Saskatchewan as Vice-President, University Relations. In this role, Cheryl is the senior leader responsible for managing the reputation and key donor relationships of the University of Saskatchewan. She provides vision and leadership to the University Relations team that includes development, alumni relations, strategic communications, and operations and services. She also has shared oversight of the USask Huskie Athletics program.
Prior to leading University Relations at the University of Saskatchewan, Cheryl served as the Executive Director, Faculty Development, where she provided direction for advancement staff and activities in 12 of the University of Calgary's faculties and schools. She has also held Director of Development roles in the School of Public Policy, the Faculty of Law, the Haskayne School of Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Calgary. From 2016-18 Cheryl served as Executive Director of the RESOLVE campaign, leading a team of senior fundraisers in a $120 million capital campaign. Prior to RESOLVE, Cheryl spent five years with Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta, serving as Vice-President, Development before moving on to the role of Chief Development Officer for Junior Achievement Canada.
Cheryl is a proud University of Saskatchewan graduate and holds her professional fundraising accreditation, CFRE. Cheryl is a consummate volunteer, serving both her profession and her community. She has been actively involved with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) both in Calgary and nationally since the Calgary Chapter’s inception in the early 1990s – including serving as AFP Calgary and Area’s President in 2001 and 2002, and as Philanthropy Day Co-chair in 1998. In 2015, AFP Calgary honored Cheryl with the organizations’ Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award.
Most recently, Cheryl served on the boards of the McMahon Stadium Society and Foothills Academy. She was also a member of the Advisory Council for Calgary’s Top 7 Over 70 for three years. Previous board appointments include Calgary Handi-Bus Foundation, Hope for Healing Children with Autism Society, the Calgary French and International School, and the Mount Royal College Not for Profit Degree Program.
